Kajsa Norrby

KAJSA is a vibrant and soulful workshop leader as well as a talented singer, songwriter and choir composer. She works both at Långrånda and tours nationally and internationally with her popular harmony singing workshops, improvisation weekends and creative songwriting courses.

She is a Natural Voice practitioner and in her work she strives to bring back song to people’s everyday lives. She leads by oral tradition, á cappella and welcomes everyone to raise their voice.

Kajsa focuses a lot on the presence of the body and breath in singing and uses exercises from theatre, improvisation and singing technique in a creative playful mix.

She is creative, educated, meticulous and serious in everything she does - and at the same time she can improvise and “invent” things, seemingly out of nowhere and completely unplanned, but the basis for everything she does and creates is a lot of preparation, planning and reflection. She is an example of what in Italy is called “sprezzatura”, to hide the artistry behind a gleam of improvisations and temporary inventions. Dragging a harmonium along the street, as Kajsa did a few times on her way to a concert is, in her case not only a transport emergency solution but a highly conscious element in the performance.

I was particularly moved by the taize singing with the improvisation from Kajsa. Our backdrop and her voice. There was something about being involved which made it even more special than if we were simply listening. My soul and spirit responded in a more powerful way than I have ever experienced in the context of singing.
